Program
Our Educational Program

English is used in our school.
Basic Thai reading and writing skills can be taught if needed.
A parent should be able to speak English or learn English to support their child’s education.
English is the language used in formal documents and school meetings.
Our Approach
Individual programs are created for each student.
Specific goals and teaching strategies are written in an Individual Educational Plan.
- Students have their own goals and will work at their own pace. The programme focuses on the student’s overall development (cognitive, social-emotional, physical, communication).
- Student progress is evaluated continually and a formal evaluation is shared with parents twice each year.
Mountain Smile teachers want every activity to be a positive learning experience for their students. To achieve this, activities will be conducted in a structured and predictable way.
Sign language
Teachers use “Makaton”, which is a comprehensive language programme, consisting of signs and symbols used to teach communication, language and literacy skills. Makaton
Our Student Behavior
Our teachers understand that many children who experience language difficulties also have challenging behavior, as they do not have proper communication skills. Our goal is to replace challenging behavior with the useful and appropriate skills that the student can use.
We work closely with parents and study each child to understand the function of the challenging behaviors; then we create a plan to replace the behaviors. This takes patience and understanding from the teachers, other students and family members.
We are willing to try to educate a child who needs extra support to function within the classroom setting but are always aware of the learning and safety needs of the other students. There may be a time when a student will need to be accompanied by a 1:1 worker to be able to attend Mountain Smile.
All behavioral programs are discussed and approved by parents and must be based upon the least restrictive approach.
Our Snoezelen Room
Mountain Smile has one of the only Snoezelen rooms in South East Asia which allows us to offer sensory programming for students with Autism
“Snoezelen is a system to approach and reach the environment of the child, through active and specific sensory stimulation, with an overall aim to increase or maintain the child’s well-being” - Wilma Kok.
“Snoezelen is an activity that takes place in a room with atmospheric lighting and soft music. It appeals to the individual senses: sound, smell, touch, sight and taste” – Ad Verheul, Jan Hulsegge.
Mountain Smile has a snoezel room which is used regularly as a part of the curriculum to relax, reduce stress and stimulate the senses.
